Kari and Curtis's Backyard Farm in Denver

It is OK in Denver to have chickens in your yard. Kari got a permit allowing them to have 6 chickens and 6 ducks. No roosters allowed!!

Curtis and Kari built this chicken coup over the last few weeks. As some folks say...it looks like a chicken palace!

They were able to find a lot of the materials free on Craigslist.

The coup is ready to be occupied. Shingles and paint will be added this weekend....

The two laying hens are thanks to our Grand Lake friend, Leslie. Leslie and her family raised nine chicks to adulthood and gave Kari and Curtis two of her flock to get them started.  The hens traveled from outside Granby to Denver in a cardboard box and layed two eggs during the trip...

Kari's neighbor, Toni, showed Kari how to clip the chickens wings, to cut down on the chance that the chickens will fly away.  Toni grow up on a farm in the Canyon City area and has a lot of chicken expertise.
