Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse

As the locals call it "Four Dead Dudes".  We have a Golden Age pass, which gets us in the park area for free, but parking is $10. Everything cost wise in the NP system has gone up...sign of the times.

Needles Highway Located in Custer State Park 14 Miles in Length on SR 87
This drive features spectacular Black Hills scenery including; granite spires, the Needles Eye, narrow tunnels and hairpin curves. Traveling on this road, visitors pass picturesque Sylvan Lake. This scenic road is a must!

Crazy Horse Memorial is the world's largest sculpture-in-progress, and frequent drilling and mountain blasts make each visit unique. When completed, Crazy Horse Memorial will stand 563 feet tall by 641 feet long.

The project was started in 1948 at the request of Chief Henry Standing Bear who invited sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to carve a mountain to honor the heritage, tradition and culture of North American Indians. Its namesake, Crazy Horse, was a war leader of the Oglala Lakota Tribe and a prominent leader in the Sioux resistance to white encroachment on the Black Hills. His bravery and skill are greatly admired, and he is revered by the Sioux as one of their greatest leaders.
