Parkesdale Farm Market, Plant City, FL

Made a stop yesterday at one of our favorites during FL strawberry season. Our friends Ned and Linda Evans first introduced us to Parkesdale Farms strawberry shortcakes in early 2011 during a Winnebago Rally at Lazy Dazy.  Parkesdale is the largest family-operated strawberry farm in Florida.

Every winter (Jan-Apr) the parking lots are over flowing with people getting Parkesdale's world famous strawberry shortcakes and strawberry milkshakes. Add this place to your list of things to do if you are in the Tampa area.....do not eat anything before your visit!  You will not go away hungry!!!

Merry Christmas 2012 from MacDill AFB, FL

Our neighbor down the block has really got the Christmas spirit. The display took working off and on for a month to get it the way you see it here. We smile every time we walk by the display on our multiple dog walk outings each day.

Happy Holidays to all our family and friends! Share the Christmas Spirit each day of the year!

Schiller's German Deli ... Tampa, FL

This is an authentic German deli. Schiller's is one of the oldest delis in Tampa. The deli was opened by the Schiller family in 1952 and has been owned and operated by the Trunk family for the past twenty-three years.

As you can see our tour of Tampa eateries continues. Schiller's is a keeper. "We'll be back"!

Ybor City, FL

Ybor City is a historic neighborhood in Tampa, Florida located just northeast of downtown. It was founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers and was populated by thousands of immigrants, mainly from Spain, Cuba, and Italy.

Ybor City has a definite Latino flavor. It is fun to spend an afternoon walking the main streets and exploring their interesting shops and restaurants.  We passed through the area as we left La Segunda Bakery.

La Segunda Central Bakery in Ybor City

The history of La Segunda Central Bakery started with a soldier’s personal vision in the late 19th Century. Out of war came Juan Moré's love for the taste of authentic Cuban bread. He was born in the Catalan region of Spain and fought in the Spanish-American War in Cuba. There, he discovered a traditional recipe for Cuban bread, the adventure of a new country and a new opportunity. Recipe in hand, he set forth to create the bakery of his dreams in the thriving Cuban district of Ybor City, Florida. Link to La Segunda Central Bakery for their story and to see all their products. If you are visiting the Tampa area this is a good place for your morning "Cafe' Con Leche".

An authentic Cuban sandwich must be made with authentic Cuban bread !
After years of perfecting and tireless hours of toil, La Segunda's quality products are prepared using the same hand-made traditions set forth in the early 1900's. One of their most important time-honored customs is placing a freshly cut leaf of palmetto across the top of each loaf to create the signature split down the middle. Truly authentic Cuban bread always contains the palm leaf.

Our loaf had the palm leaf. The Cuban bread makes great sandwiches and toast.

Pipo's Cuban Cafe

After a busy day shopping at the flea market we checked out a recommended Cuban cafe. As you can see from the photo below the food was great with traditional good taste...

The Pipo's we went to was in St Pete, FL, but the family brothers have locations in the Tampa area, also.
