Independence of the Sea in the background as we board ferry to Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsula. The seas were very rough, so the 45 min. trip seemed very long.

Views from the 2 1/2 + hour bus trip Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza....
We traveled the new toll road, which cuts 45 mins off the trip... total travel time was 7 hrs, so only got about 1 1/2 hrs at the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins site. Chichen Itza is very impressive and well worth the travel time to get there and back from Cozumel.
