As a scenic side trip, we decided to take the 30 min ferry ride from Essex, NY to Charlotte, VT on our way to Burlington.
Road closed!! Said it was open to "local" traffic, but it wasn't. We were forced to unhook the car, so we could make the turn around and find any other way to the ferry. Many cars had to do the same thing, but it was a little easier for them to turn around.
Over a rise and Lake Champlain was in front of us....

Land ahoy! The trip across this part of Lake Champlain is only 2.5 miles and total time with waiting about 30 mins.
We have arrived in VT!
