Grand Lake Moose Sighting

The Moose continue to visit us at Elk Creek Campground....even between the rain drops. We have had a lot of rain this week, but no flooding in this area.  Trail Ridge Road has been closed through Rock Mountain National Park, because of all the flood damage on the Estes Park side of the mountains. Hwy 34, which passes through Grand Lake has been wiped out on the east of Estes Park to Lyons.

Look between the trees and you will see one of Grand Lake's Red Fox. Thank you Sharon Adams(camp buddy from Kansas) for sharing your great photo with us.

Rapids Lodge, Grand Lake, CO..... Night Out!

The Rapids Lodge was built in 1915 as an inn and restaurant, and has been preserved as an historical hotel and is an icon in Grand Lake. The unique lodge pole pine structure was the first building in Grand Lake, Colorado to have electricity and running water. The Historic Lodge and Restaurant building is typical of the early 1900’s “Barky” or Adirondack style of architecture sporting an austere facade and boxy look.

There have been a variety of famous and infamous guests staying and dinning at the Rapids including Jim Croce, Janis Joplin, Kris Christofferson and most recently  Elk Creek CG friends...Donald & Rebecca(owners), Jan & Ted(seasonal residences) and Popeye & Paulette(18 year seasonal residences)
