Made a stop yesterday at one of our favorites during FL strawberry season. Our friends Ned and Linda Evans first introduced us to Parkesdale Farms strawberry shortcakes in early 2011 during a Winnebago Rally at Lazy Dazy. Parkesdale is the largest family-operated strawberry farm in Florida.

Ybor City, FL
Ybor City is a historic neighborhood in Tampa, Florida located just northeast of downtown. It was founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers and was populated by thousands of immigrants, mainly from Spain, Cuba, and Italy.
Ybor City has a definite Latino flavor. It is fun to spend an afternoon walking the main streets and exploring their interesting shops and restaurants. We passed through the area as we left La Segunda Bakery.
La Segunda Central Bakery in Ybor City
The history of La Segunda Central Bakery started with a soldier’s personal vision in the late 19th Century. Out of war came Juan Moré's love for the taste of authentic Cuban bread. He was born in the Catalan region of Spain and fought in the Spanish-American War in Cuba. There, he discovered a traditional recipe for Cuban bread, the adventure of a new country and a new opportunity. Recipe in hand, he set forth to create the bakery of his dreams in the thriving Cuban district of Ybor City, Florida. Link to La Segunda Central Bakery for their story and to see all their products. If you are visiting the Tampa area this is a good place for your morning "Cafe' Con Leche".
An authentic Cuban sandwich must be made with authentic Cuban bread !
After years of perfecting and tireless hours of toil, La Segunda's quality products are prepared using the same hand-made traditions set forth in the early 1900's. One of their most important time-honored customs is placing a freshly cut leaf of palmetto across the top of each loaf to create the signature split down the middle. Truly authentic Cuban bread always contains the palm leaf.
