Story of the Spanish friars Escalante & Dominguez 

Kiva in the Escalante pueblo. Escalante wrote about this pueblo in his journal, making it the first written account of an archaeological site in southwestern Colorado.

This pueblo style museum was constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation & houses the Anasazi Heritage Center headquarters & interpretive museum.

While it was a great drive on the "rim" we encountered some bad road sections - some worse than this - and the problem was that we had to get back to work in a little over than an hour.  

After shopping in Durango, we decided to return to camp via a new route. The route took us to over 10,000 feet elevation on the western rim of the "hills" above Durango. The trip presented loads of nice views along a 20 mile dirt road.
